Into Year 6

One week ago Shane and I celebrated 5 years of marriage.  Since he had time off between jobs, he flew out to LA so we could celebrate together.  We don't get to be together for it every year.   This trip was a last minute decision and worked out wonderfully.  Shane got to relax during the day, then we could spend time together at night.  We've done this several times over the last 5 years.  I'd be off on production in LA, San Fran, or NYC.  Shane would have the time or need to go himself, so we would take advantage of the nice client bought hotel rooms.  I love it because work always feels more like fun when Shane's around.

This trip was better than most since I had time off during our anniversary day on Friday the 30th.  First we enjoyed the large breakfast spread the Oceana sets outs for it's guests.  It's a serious amount of good food.  After the breakfast of anything we wanted, we took the hotel up on its free bikes.  The weather was perfect so we road past the pier and down onto the beach bike path towards Malibu.  I'm not sure if it was due to summer being over or being a Friday morning, but the path was fairly empty.  Total peace and fun.

In the afternoon, Shane stuck with my two co-workers and me for lunch at 3 Square Cafe in Venice, then to see some stores in Hollywood.  But he and I got bored, so we stopped for a beer along the way.

Then I had to go into work early evening, thinking we'd be done by 7 pm so our dinner out was still possible.  However, as is often true in life and marriage, things didn't go as planned.  I couldn't leave until 9 pm.  Dinner was shot.

Meanwhile, Shane met up with some old Brandcenter friends at what seemed to be the only bar in LA that still allows smoking.  He asked me to come rescue him.  So after dropping off the team, I double backed for him.

Next question.  Where do you go in LA for an anniversary dinner at 10 PM without reservations?  There's really only one perfect answer:  In-n-Out Burger.

Now I am not one for fast food usually, but for In-n-Out even I make an exception.  It was a perfect 5th anniversary dinner - yummy burgers on the coffee table and bare feet.  Total happiness!

The evening ended up being a good metaphor of the bumps we run into along the way, but as long as we're together, even the bumps are fun.

The next day we flew back to NYC together.  36 hours later, I returned to LA.  I'll take what I get!
