Time with my folks

Over the last couple weeks, I've had the blessing of time with my wonderful parents.  First I flew to Myrtle Beach for the weekend, then Mom joined me in NYC for the next weekend.
Beautiful Myrtle Beach.   I could sit on that beach all day.
Dear sweet Daddy looking sharp in Coastal teal!
Golf course at the club.
Beautiful Momma, enjoying the sunset.

While Mom visited the city, we went on an Onion City food tour of the Lower East Side.  We ate pickled pineapple, sesame candy, Italian cheese, traditional cannoli, and Chinese ice cream.  Some of it was better then others.  I can't recommend the pickled pineapple or Chinese ice cream, but the Italian cheese was pretty great.  We'll see how it compares to the real thing when I'm in Italy next month!

Our guide had some good stories about the history and culture of the LES, too.  Most of them centered on immigration and the changes over the last 150 years.

Pickle guys interior.  100 years ago they only used wooden barrels, so eating pickles was dangerous to your health.

Loved having Momma all to myself!

Our tour guide dispensing the samples.

Even our guide wasn't sure why we were going to Chinatown for ice cream instead of dumplings.

Her last night in town, Mom and I dined at a German restaurant a block from my apartment.  It's been on my list to try for the last year.  Seemed like a perfect time to study up on Germon cuisine before our trip.

Rolf's has the craziest decor.  Fake trees and leaves, complete with the wooden beams.  It feels like a magic forest!

Riesling and schnitzel - yum!
