And it's pretty easy in NYC. We have a Breville juicer, so I'll make Shane and I juice a few times a week. On the days I don't have time or didn't make it to Whole Foods for supplies, I can stop in one of the many delis or juicing counters on my walk to work. It really is ridiculous how easy it is to get whatever you want, almost anytime of the day in the city.
But for the last 2 weeks I've been in LA on production. While I do enjoy my job, and being on production is the best part, the days are long and often without breaks. I don't have much control over what or when I eat because we are usually stuck in one place and people just bring you food. Yeah, sounds nice, and it is in a lot of ways, but it also wrecks havoc on your body. Lots of yummy rich food and sitting all day does not do a body good! In the beginning of my trips, I try to get up early and walk to Whole Foods for fresh juice before the 16 hour work day starts, but after a few of those long days sleep seems more important.
Fortunately, I had time off this weekend between the shoot and editorial (both happening in LA). So I am at my parents' place in Myrtle beach with them and Evelyn. Even though it took 13 hours to get here it was well worth it. Sometimes all I need is a hug from my sweet Momma to relax.

I also wanted to detox from all the rich food I enjoyed on production. Bring on the juice! I vary what goes in sometimes, but my staples are: kale, spinach, apples, carrot, cucumber. Lately I've been adding romaine lettuce, celery, and lemon.

I won't lie, it takes some getting used to. The apples add a slight sweetness, but nothing like the sugary drinks and packaged juices that line the store shelves. Pretty soon though, I found myself craving it and noticing just how sweetened other drinks are.
