A Perfectly Roman Day

Day 9 / June 3   ---   More Roma

Sunday was a true day of rest.  Mom, Daddy, and E went on a tour in the morning while Trey and I slept in.  When they got back we had a perfectly lazy afternoon at one of the restaurants right under the apartment.  It started with a snack, turned into lunch, then coffee, then dessert.  The weather was perfect and we had internet, so the hours spent at the outdoor table were lovely and long.  We started planning what we wanted to do on Monday since it was tour-free.

Once evening hit, we strolled north to Piazza del Popolo.  We were looking for a particular restaurant a friend told Mom about.  We never found the restaurant, but instead stumbled upon the sweetest little street, Via Margutta.  It used to be a street of craftsmen, workshops, and stables.  Today it's lined with gardens, art galleries, and fashionable restaurants.   The whole street smells like the jasmine that line the walls.  I highly recommend a walk down Via Margutta for anyone visiting Roma.  On another evening, we went to dinner at Babette.  This place it on the north end of Margutta and has the most beautiful courtyard.  Very yummy Italian, too!

We walked around Piazzo del Popolo, then back south along Via del Corso.  Corso is the main street with lots of shopping.  Many of the stores are international and in NY, too.  I guess since it was late on a Sunday, there weren't many cars, so the people filled the streets.  It was pretty cool.

While we were still looking for the restaurant, Daddy stopped a man to ask for directions.  The man looked at the restaurant name and said "you don't want to eat there.  It'sa no good.  Come to my restaurant!"  I mean, of course he had a restaurant...

It was just across the street and was one of the best meals of our trip.  Even Trey ate the fresh buffalo mozzerella, and he wont' usually go near cheese.  The owner sat at the table with us for part of the meal.   Apparently, he also has a luxury travel agency and is always looking for contacts in other countries for his clients.  It was pretty funny.  This guy truly had his hands in many pockets.

After dinner he wanted to show us a beautiful little church nearby.  On the way home, we stopped by the Trevi Fountain again.  The cleaning crew was out, so we got a little show.  Then we slowly strolled the rest of the way, working off the magnificent dinner.   It really was a perfect day.

Afternoon at the cafe.
Via Margutta.
Lovely and fragrant jasmine.
Piazzo del Popolo

Piazzo del Popolo, looking towards Borghese Gardens.

The Egyptian obelisk.  Augustus brought it to Rome in 10 BC. It's moved around the city, but the writing remains intact.

Via del Corso.  Love that there weren't many cars.

So so good!

Our table outside.

There was so much trash!  Why do people just drop stuff on the ground.  Including cigarettes.  The men did a good of cleaning up after all the slobs.

Totally staged.  We did it for real the first time, but the camera didn't catch it.

Cuties.
