Do Icemen like Wine?

Day 5 / May 30   -   Bolzano and Vipiteno, Italy

Wednesday was another full day tour, running about 13 hours long.  We drove south, through Austria into northern Italy.  Then spent time in 2 cities.  The first was Vipiteno, a town nestled in the hills with narrow roads and plenty of shopping.  Since it's so close to Germany and Austria, the town speaks mostly German.  In fact, it really hasn't been part of Italy for very long.  The only tour stop in Vipiteno was for a wine tasting.  Turned out to be a little more wine buying than tasting.

Then it was back on the bus for Bolzano.  After another yummy lunch, toured the museum for Otzi.  The Iceman they found in the mountains in 1991, after what they think was 5,400 years  in the snow.  Kinda interesting everything they learned off the one body.  My favorite part of the Ozti music video at the end.  Well, that's what Trey and I called it.  I think it was supposed to be a re-enactment of Ozti final day, but it was edited cutty with music and bad 80's effects.  We couldn't stop laughing for nearly an hour.

On our way out, Daddy bought Mom a new hat and I enjoyed the farmers market.  E, T, and I wrapped the day with what else - German beer!

Route of the day.

Biggest surprise of the day was our stop for breakfast.  I will admit it was super clean and had the best view of any McDonald's ever.

Vipiteno's main street.

The wine tasting was more of a "come into my liquor store, dear touristas."

Enjoy that, E.  You only get one more taste before you have to buy the bottle
So beautiful and unwavering support - this girl loves her Momma.
The big tower in this small town is called the Zwolferturn and was build in 1470.
Reminds me of Rainbow Row in Charleston.

Promise I didn't reverse this image to create a mirror effect.  We just all look alike.

The perfect people for this photo.
Just another beautiful castle-like building on the top of another beautiful hill.  I only have a couple hundred pictures like this.
Front of the class on the way to Bolzano.

Welcome to Bolzano!  We have beautiful buildings, flowers, food, and Ozti (the oldest caveman over found).
What they think Ozti looked like.  Thought I'd spare you from an image of the actual corpse, cause well... you know.

Why not...

Don't put too much pepper in the oil.
Mom's new Bolzano hat.  So pretty!

We had a Witte kid only late dinner at this cute German restaurant a short walk from the hotel.  I essentially had the German version of mac and cheese with bacon.  Could eat that every single day.
